Business Economics

The study program Business Economics is intended for students who have the desire and need to be educated in a quality way and acquire knowledge and skills that will enable them to play an active role in the modern business world. During their studies, through the study of mandatory and elective courses, students are enabled to acquire knowledge in the field of business economics, as well as to focus on the fields of:

Accounting and Auditing - ever since its establishment, the Faculty of Business has been educating experts in the field of accounting and auditing. Modern business systems could not function without experts in these disciplines: accounting is the basis for financial statements prepared for the purpose of decision making, while auditing contributes to enhancing the quality of the work process of a company by identifying its weaknesses and flaws and finding ways to overcome them.

Finance and Banking - taking into account the central role of finance in business growth and development of the overall economy, it can be concluded that there will be a growing need for the experts in this field in the upcoming years who shall be able to contribute to daily business activities and strategic business decision making.

Marketing and Management - this module is designed in accordance with the demands of the modern market: modern experts in the field of marketing and management need to be well-attained, i.e., communicative, creative, and wise in their daily work and strategic business decisions making.

Human Resources Management - Human resources and employee motivation are the key elements for the long-term market survival of an organization, and the creativity and innovation in their implementation have a considerable bearing on the overall quality of relationships with potential clients and consumers of goods and services.

A key aspect of teaching in this study program is the use of case study methodology, which allows students to, through case studies of successful companies from our country and the world, develop systematic and analytical problem-solving. Advanced software is used in practice classes in applied economic subjects. Continuous work of students on acquiring professional business skills (hard skills) and personal business skills (soft skills), makes them acquire the full range of skills necessary for the development of a successful career. Another advantage of modern study programs is the possibility of learning two foreign languages, of which English is compulsory, and the other foreign language is optional.

hat Upon successful completion of studies, the students shall be awarded the academic title of Bachelor of Science in Economics.

Upon completion of the study program Business Economics, students, based on the acquired knowledge, competencies, and skills, have a wide range of employment opportunities in positions that include:

  • management of key business functions (management, finance, accounting, and marketing) in companies and other organizations,
  • change and crisis management in organizations,
  • application of accounting methodology for the purpose of reporting to management bodies and other users of financial statements, as well as for the purpose of prevention of criminal acts in the field of economy and prevention of vulnerability of the organization to these criminal acts,
  • use of alternative techniques of analysis of financial statements and business finances to determine the financial structure and success for the needs of business combinations, i.e., mergers and acquisitions,
  • use of modern information systems in the field of accounting and e-business methodology to meet the goals of the organization more efficiently.

I year

The aim of the course is to acquaint students with the basic ideas, theoretical concepts, and policies in the fields of microeconomics and macroeconomics, as well as to provide a closer insight into contemporary business conditions in the market. Acquiring basic knowledge in these areas is a prerequisite for understanding the functioning of a modern market economy in a global macroeconomic environment.

English Language 1 is a general English language course that systematically covers all basic language structures and skills through a wide range of relevant and thematic material. The goal of the course is to improve receptive and productive skills and achieve accuracy of expression in various situations and in the context of different topics (equalising the abilities at the B2 level of The Common European Framework of Reference for Languages).

The course aims at introducing students to the basics pertaining to the culture of the Spanish-speaking world, as well as the fundamentals of the Spanish language – paying specific attention to the communicative functions of the language.

Mastering basic concepts and statements in mathematical analysis for functions of one and two independent variables, mastering matrix, differential and integral calculus, basics of probability and statistics in favour of better mastering of economic phenomena, as well as their further monitoring and forecasting.

Introducing students to the concept and structure of the state legal system, basic institutes of civil law, property law, contract law, business law and specific contracts in the economy, banking, and service sector.

The objective of the course is to introduce students to the basics of the accounting methodology, goals, and tasks of accounting, as well as the preparation and content of financial statements.

Introducing students to the basics of management, managerial history, contemporary trends in business and management, and management process (planning, organizing, leading, and controlling). Through readings, discussions and simulations, students will develop practical skills of critical thinking, analytical problem-solving, teamwork and collaboration.

Introducing students to basic socio-psychological theories and interpretations of the influence of the actual or implicit presence of other people on an individual's behaviour. Acquiring basic knowledge about different aspects of interpersonal relationships, dynamics, and ways of functioning of individuals in groups. Understanding the social impact and differences that exist in the psychological functioning and behaviour of individuals when they are alone, in a small or a large group. Enabling students to perceive the interaction of economic and socio-psychological processes to creatively use the acquired knowledge in future work.

II year

The objective of the course is to introduce students to theoretical, analytical, and applied knowledge of business finance and master problems arising in finance in modern companies, as well as develop analytical and practical way of thinking to be able to perform work as a financial manager in the context of effectively conducting certain tasks in finances of companies.

The aim of the course is to acquaint students with the basic ideas, theoretical concepts, and policies in the fields of international trade and international finance, as well as to point out their importance in the growing economic interdependence of countries and the dynamics of economic flows. Acquiring basic knowledge of the modern international economy is a prerequisite for understanding complex international economic relations and mechanisms that affect the position of the country in а global economy.

The structure and content of the English Language 2 course are a continuation of the English Language 1 course, and its goal is to raise the level of English language knowledge and to develop all language skills at the upper-intermediate level (B2 level according to The Common European Framework of Reference for Languages). At this level, the skills are strengthened with the aim of systematising the existing level of knowledge and then moving to an upper level.

Course Goals and Objectives: To understand the concept and importance of marketing as a scientific and business discipline, to understand the importance of marketing research in the business of all organizations and companies in the for-profit and non-profit sector, to understand the characteristics of the marketing environment, to understand the role of ethics and corporate social responsibility in modern business.

Students will be introduced to the concept and role of management accounting; be familiar with the difficulties and problems in determining the cost of products and services; to learn models and costing systems from classic to modern approaches, understand transfer pricing and compile budgets.

Students will be enabled to understand the theoretical, analytical, and practical knowledge about monetary and banking systems, banking development, banking businesses and banks` organization.

The primary objective of this course is to acquire theoretical and practical knowledge for working with databases, mechanisms for storing structured data and ways of their processing to obtain useful information. After adopting basic concepts, the next goal is to understand the modelling techniques and to overcome the SQL language in order to work with relational databases. Special significance for students is being able to construct and execute multiple queries, according to the given logical conditions. In the end, the goal is to master the practical knowledge of administration and database maintenance.

The aim of the course is to provide theoretical and practical knowledge about corporate culture and organizational behaviour, ways of their origin, as well as the basic forms of manifestation within modern business organizations.

III year

The main goal of the course is to develop key competencies and abilities for the successful execution of business activities in entrepreneurial business. The curriculum covers the entire process of entrepreneurship, starting from the creation of a business idea, business plan development, legal aspects and protection of intellectual property, business growth and development, all the way to the transformation of the company and exit strategy with the collection of the effect of ownership.

The primary goal of this course is to acquaint students with the basic concepts, principles, services, infrastructure, models, architectures, and technologies of modern electronic business systems. The secondary goal of this course is to gain experience in the implementation and realization of various e-business services in a real-world market environment. Given that the field of e-business is current and dynamic in technological and practical terms, one of the additional goals is to enable students to independently conduct research activities in this domain, as well as monitor and adapt to current world trends.

The structure and content of the English Language 3 course are a continuation of the English Language 2 course and its goal is to raise the level of English language knowledge and to develop all language skills – speaking, reading and writing for general and specific purposes at the upper-intermediate level towards the advanced level (B2.2 towards C1 according to The Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) At this level, the skills are strengthened with the aim of systematising the existing level of knowledge and then moving to an upper level.

Course objective: to acquaint students with the theoretical, analytical, and applied knowledge of the monetary, credit and banking system, monetary, credit and interest rate policy and instruments; and coordination of monetary and fiscal policy.

The aim of this course is that students understand the importance of human resources management as a creative and innovative part of any organization, as well as the concept, evolution, processes, and methods of the human resources management, used by organizations with the aim of attracting, retaining, motivating, and rewarding their employees, to meet the organization's strategic objectives.

Acquiring knowledge about marketing research through its dimensions, multidisciplinary, organization and ethical aspects of research to the research process which includes a series of steps, starting from the organization of data collection to the preparation of reports on research results.

Students will be able to apply the requirements of International Financial Reporting Standards while recording business transactions, preparing ordinary financial statements, and estimating assets, liabilities, revenues, and expenses for financial reporting purposes. Also, students will be able to understand the importance and role of high-quality financial reporting as an integral part of the national and worldwide economy.

The objective of the course Italian Language 1 is to develop all four language skills through interactive teaching, with emphasis on communication skills, in accordance with the criteria of the Common European Framework with the aim of achieving A1 (A1.1 + A1.2) level of language learning, as well as to get students acquainted with the basics of Italian culture and civilization through a communicative approach.

The course objective is to acquire Greek language-related skills necessary to achieve the A1 (A1.1 + A1.2) level according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. The emphasis is put on the equal development of all four skills: oral and written comprehension, and oral and written expression. Apart from that - the course will guide students through the notions coming from the field of culture, customs, tradition, and intercultural relations pertinent to Greece and its people.

Russian language 1 represents a course in Russian language and culture at the initial A1 level, according to the Common European Framework for Languages, during which systematic work is done on all language skills and the constant replacement of communicative and grammatical elements.

The objective of the French Language 1 course is to get students acquainted with the basic communicative, grammatical, and lexical units to enable them to acquire all language skills in the use of the French language at A1 (A1.1 + A1.2) level, in accordance with the Common European Reference Framework for Living Languages.

The course objective is to acquire the skills necessary to achieve the A1 (A1.1 + A1.2) level according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. The emphasis is put on the equal development of all four skills: oral and written comprehension, and oral and written expression.

The course aims at introducing students to the basics pertaining to the culture of the Spanish-speaking world, as well as the fundamentals of the Spanish language – paying specific attention to the communicative functions of the language.

Acquiring the knowledge of the financial functioning of the state government and its social and economic functions. Analysis of the most important forms of public revenues and expenditures and their importance in the state budget system.

Mastering theoretical and applied knowledge in the field of recruitment and selection of human resources, as a means of attracting and selecting appropriate human capital in organizations.

Provides students with an opportunity to understand the principles of advertising, the process of creating advertising campaigns and how advertising agencies work. The focus of this course is on decision making for the best creative concept and for integration of advertising with other promotional-mix elements and the need to understand their role and overall contribution; to recognize the digital consumer's characteristics and needs; to understand the importance of ethics in communication with the target market; to get acquainted with the importance of advertising strategy in contemporary organizations and companies.

The aim of the course is to acquire theoretical, analytical and applied knowledge in the field of auditing and auditing regulations. This includes understanding the essence of the audit profession through familiarization with applicable regulations (Law on Audit, Law on Banks, Law on Capital Market, Law on Securities, etc.), International Standards on Auditing, the importance of the code of ethics for the audit profession, internal control systems, using the results of internal audit work, which are the stages in the audit process, compliance tests, sampling of transactions, materiality assessment and audit risks.

The aim of the course is to combine a theory that explains the basic principles and principles of corporate finance with the practical application of various methods that will help financial managers in making financial and investment decisions.

Mastering the basic concepts of digital human resource management (HRM) and preparing students for the HR role in a digital business environment.

Introduction to a modern approach to the management of different types of projects, starting from the theoretical elements of the project management concept, all the way to the practical applications of specialized software tools. The course is designed to present an appropriate methodological approach to initiating, planning, executing, monitoring, controlling, and closing projects, as well as to introduce students to specific methods and techniques necessary for successful project management.

Course Goals and Objectives: embracing internal audit from a broad perspective that includes information technology, business processes, and accounting systems. Also, the aim of the course is to understand the importance and role of professional standards of internal audit, risk assessment, asset management, ethics and audit techniques and new issues in the field. This course leads to the Certificate of Internal Auditor Education and will prepare students for the Certified Internal Auditor Exam.

Theoretical and analytical understanding of a wide range of investment opportunities in real, financial, and alternative assets; as well as getting familiar with the characteristics of different types of investors in the financial market.

Mastering the basic concepts of the modern labour market and understanding the wider work environment in which organizations recruit their employees.

Introducing students to the basics of the global business environment and the determinants of international/global business operations; opportunities and challenges companies face when expanding their operations internationally or when they have international competitors in their domestic market; organizational designs and strategies of international companies, as well as various aspects of managerial functions in the international business environment.

Acquiring theoretical and practical knowledge in the field of accounting information systems. Application of digitalization in the economy, introduction to modern achievements in the field of information systems, tendencies of future development. The goal of practical classes is that through case studies and other practical examples, students acquire the necessary skills related to the accounting information system.

IV year

Introducing students to the concepts of strategic management and its nature in the competitive and institutional landscape, providing the basics of strategy formulation process and frameworks, tools and techniques of strategic analysis and their application. Through readings, discussions and simulations, students will develop conceptual, diagnostic, and analytical skills in strategy formulation and execution, and a holistic approach to seeing business issues comprehensively.

The objective of this course is to enable students to acquire theoretical knowledge and practical skills in the field of financial statement analysis.

The goal of the English 4 course, which is a continuation of the English 3 course, is based on the acquisition, comprehension, and usage of the target language at the C1-C1+ level of The Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. It is achieved through interactive, systematic teaching and a humanistic approach to the development of all language skills.

The objective of the course is to introduce students to basic concepts and categories in the field of applied skills with a focus on solving specific problems. The course aims at mastering skills through active teaching supplemented by the implementation of practice in particular business society, followed by writing and defence of an independent project. Training students for independent work in the economy, deepening and application of knowledge in the field of professional development and business skills, and the application of theoretical knowledge in concrete case studies are the focus of this course.

The aim of the professional practice in the fourth year of studies is for the students to further improve their practical skills for working in domestic and international companies, banks, insurance companies, marketing agencies, audit agencies, governmental agencies, and other organizations.

The aim of the final paper is to show that the student has mastered the knowledge and acquired the competencies needed for independent work in the field of Business Economics. The final work is a unique project that is done during the last year of study. The final work consists of theoretical and practical work. The primary goal of the final paper is to acquaint students with the rules, procedures, and processes of independent analytical and research work as well as practical applications of acquired theoretical knowledge.

The objective of the course Italian Language 2, which is, both in content and structure, a continuation of the course Italian Language 1, is to develop all four language skills through interactive teaching, with emphasis on communication skills, in accordance with the criteria of the Common European Framework with the aim of achieving A2 (A2.1 + A2.2) level of language learning, as well as to get students acquainted with the recognizable segments of Italian culture and civilization using the reading and comprehension skills.

The course objective of the Greek Language and culture 2, which in its structure and content accompanies the Greek Language and Culture 1, is to prepare students for the acquisition of new grammatical and lexical units as well as receptive and productive language skills at level A2 (A2.1 + A2.2) according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages; the course will also shed some more light on cultural perspectives and influences on the Greek language.

The objective of the French Language 2 course, which is, both in content and structure, a continuation of the course French Language 1, is to get students acquainted with communicative, grammar and lexical units to enable them to acquire all language skills in the use of the French Language at A2 (A2.1 + A2.2) level, in accordance with the Common European Framework for Living Languages.

The course objective of the German Language 1, which in its structure and content accompanies the German Language 1, is to prepare students for the acquisition of new grammatical and lexical units as well as receptive and productive language skills at level A2 (A2.1 + A2.2) according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

The course objective of the Spanish Language 2, which in its structure and content accompanies the Spanish Language 1, is to prepare students for the acquisition of new grammatical and lexical units as well as receptive and productive language skills at level A2 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

Acquiring theoretical, analytical and applied knowledge of the most important segments of financial markets, underlying and derivative financial instruments, as well as an introduction to domestic and international stock exchanges.

Mastering the basic concepts of employee relations in the context of modern human resource management (HRM), and driving the motivation and productivity of employees in the organization.

Introducing students to the basics and essence of the concept of consumer behaviour in the market; understanding the integrated action and influence of internal and external factors from the environment on consumer behaviour and the decision-making process on the purchase of products and services; understanding consumer behaviour and the importance of creating value for consumers; understanding the need to build and manage long-term customer relationships.

Course objectives are: To clearly define the meaning and role of forensic accounting and auditing in fraud investigation; To acquire theoretical knowledge in the area of Forensic Accounting; To integrate the knowledge of specific legal rules and principles with forensic accounting practice; To master techniques of financial investigation; Through case studies and other practical exercises to develop document investigation and analysis skills for the purpose of using documents as evidence in financial fraud cases, tax fraud and employee fraud cases.

The objective of the course is to introduce students to basic concepts of risk; as well as measurement methods, models and tools in quantifying categories related to different financial instruments and products (such as risk, interest, yield, expected loss, etc.) in the context of current and future developments in financial markets; basic principles of risk management in the business of a company; to get acquainted with the importance of risk management in the business of modern organizations.

Mastering theoretical and applied knowledge in the field of employee development, to increase the value of human capital in organizations.

Understanding the multidimensional digital environment as a basic context for modern marketing activities. Introduction to key technologies of the Internet and other digital media and its most popular services from the aspect of the use for marketing purposes. Mastering the knowledge and tools for the development of digital marketing strategies on the Internet and evaluating their effectiveness.

The aim of the course is that students to acquire and adopt a framework of auditing skills and understand the frame of audit methodology or application of the methodology in performing audits of financial statements. Students will develop the skills of critical thinking, communication with the audit client and digital literacy.

The course objective is to introduce students to the theoretical and practical aspects and modalities in the valuation of financial and real assets, as well as the valuation of different types of companies. Valuation of financial and real assets is one of the pillars of modern business, having in mind the growing importance of debt and equity financial instruments. Companies’ valuation, both public and private ones, is being assessed for the purpose of buying, selling, merging and acquisition of the capital, as well as determining the financial and investment capacities and potentials.

Getting acquainted with the basic issues of labour law, collective and individual employment contracts in the modern sense, as well as the relationship between employers and employees (the concept of employment; legal regulation of employment; the general and special conditions that must be met when establishing and terminating employment; the concept of employment contract; working hours; vacations, etc.).

The main goal of the course is to acquaint students with the basic principles of supply chain management, to ensure the planned transfer of value that products and services should bring to customers.

The main goal of the course is to upgrade the acquired knowledge in the field of ordinary financial reporting through the study of the methodology of preparation and purpose of consolidated financial statements, special financial reports, and tax balance.
