Business Economics

This study programme is intended for students who wish to receive high-quality education and acquire hands-on experience in the domain of economics, which would further enable them to take an active part in the contemporary business environment. As one of the leading and most prestigious higher education institutions in the region, the Faculty of Business in Belgrade boasts four modules:

Accounting and Auditing - ever since its establishment, the Faculty of Business has been educating experts in the field of accounting and auditing. Modern business systems could not function without experts in these disciplines: accounting is the basis for financial statements preparation for the purpose of decision making, while auditing contributes to enhancing the quality of work process of a company by identifying its weaknesses and flaws, and finding ways to overcome them.

Finance and Banking - taking into account the central role of finance in business growth and development of the overall economy, it can be concluded that there will be a growing need for the experts in this field in the upcoming years who shall be able to contribute to daily business activities and strategic business decision making.

Marketing and Management - this module is designed in accordance with the demands of the modern market: modern experts in the field of marketing and management need to be well-attained, i.e., communicative, creative and wise in their daily work and strategic business decision making.

Human Resources Management - Human resources and employee motivation are the key elements for the long-term market survival of an organization, and the creativity and innovation in their implementation has a considerable bearing on the overall quality of relationships with potential clients and consumers of goods and services.

The key aspect of the teaching process at this study programme is the use of case study methodology, which allows the students to develop systematic and analytical problem-solving skills through analysis of case studies of successful companies in the country and abroad.

Advanced software in the field of finance and accounting such as SAP, Pantheon, Asseco, Bloomberg and platform Forex are used in teaching applied economic courses.

Continuous effort of students in acquiring professional business skills (hard skills) and personal business skills (soft skills), enables them to acquire a wide range of skills necessary for successful career development.

Another advantage of this modern study programme is the possibility of learning two foreign languages; English is compulsory, whereas the second foreign language is optional: German, Italian, French, Spanish, Russian and Chinese.

Entrance exam for the study programme Business Economics includes the following:

  • Writing a short essay ( related to the field of Business Economics),
  • A brief interview on the candidates’ additional areas of interest.

Upon on-line registration, the student shall receive optional topics to be discussed during the entrance exam.

Upon successful completion of studies, the students shall be awarded an academic title of Bachelor of Arts in Economics (BA in Economics).

Introducing students to basic concepts of macroeconomics, methodology of macroeconomic analysis, helping them develop analytical and practical thinking and gain understanding of macroeconomic tendencies. Learning about microeconomic concepts and categories (market, supply and demand, and prices), their correlation and the methodology of microeconomic analysis of these categories. Enabling students to understand the analyses of microeconomic and macroeconomic categories and their correlation with developmental tendencies of companies and estimating their capacities and directions potential development might take in the future of social economics.

Learning basic concepts andassertions in the calculus of functions of one and two independent variables, learning matrix, differential and integral calculus, basic probability in favor of better mastering of economic activities,as well as their follow-up and prognosis Students learn to solve problems related to the application of mathematical models in economics and practice.

Introducing students to basics of information technologies, hardware and software basics in modern computer systems, as well as phenomenon of networking and the Internet. Practice enables them to master basics of computer literacy regarding operation systems, databases, word processing software and the Internet. Acquisition of theoretical and practical knowledge of hardware, operation systems, application software, use of email and the Internet, as well as introduction to modern information and communication technologies.

English Language 1 represents a course of basic English which systematically covers all basic language structures and skills through a wide range of relevant and thematic material. The course objective is the improvement in speaking skills and excellence in speaking in various situations regarding diverse topics. This course provides students with better understanding of written and oral language by the usage of main grammatical structures.

The course is designed to introduce students to psychology as a discipline, in order to understand its application in specific areas of human activities, such as human resource management. The course objective is for students to master basic psychological notions, as well as to acquire knowledge on basic patterns that govern human behaviour. Students will be capable of using basic psychology terms when explaining and understanding human behaviour, of designing research and applying it in practice.

Students will be able: to define the concept of management and the evolution of management theory, to identify and compare the most important management trends in the 21st century; to describe the stages of management process (planning, organising, leading and controlling); to explain the management process through case studies analyses; and to actively participate in the improvement of business processes in their faculty and University as a whole. To enable students to apply the acquired theoretical knowledge in management to solve real business problems and challenges.

Acquiring basic and general knowledge on legal system, state and regional/European integrations, acquisition of general knowledge on incorporation of legal and natural entities, understanding and acquiring the most important principles and institution of property law, business law and law of contract. After completing the course, the students should be able to: explain basic terms and elements referring to the state and regional/European integration and analyse information and meanings of the most important legal and political trends, explain method and hierarchy of legal system functioning, define and in a simple manner apply basic notions of property law and law of contract, differ between types of companies and explain major characteristics of every type, understand legal importance and consequences of business law’s contracts

Teaching the theoretical, analytical and applied knowledge of accounting methodology, as well as the acquisition of knowledge and skills necessary to use accounting information in the business decision-making process for the purposes of various users, primarily investors and creditors. The course should enable students to master the following knowledge and skills based on lectures, to demonstrate understanding of the accounting role in the context of developed financial markets,to understand the basics of recognizing business transactions and preparing financial reports, and to understand accounting problems appearing in that process as a challenge for managers when using accounting information to make business decisions.

II year

Acquisition of theoretical, analytical and applied knowledge of business finance and mastering problems arising in the area of finance in modern companies, as well as developing analytical and practical way of thinking in order to be able to perform work as a financial manager in the context of effectively conducting certain tasks in the area of finances of companies. Student acquires knowledge of business finance representing basics for further education. Knowledge refers to financial management system, financial policy and rules of financing, financial planning, control and financial analysis of a company, financial management of company’s current assets, restructuring and rehabilitation of a company. Acquired knowledge serves as a basis for encountering financial and economic issues during students’ further education.

A course in Marketing aims to provide students with a basic knowledge of marketing as a science,of its characteristics and nature, as well asthe characteristics of the marketing environment, market, consumer behavior, marketing mix instruments, and, eventually, of the processes of marketing management. It is expected that the acquired knowledge will serve to students as a solid basis for further study and understanding of marketing as a science, business discipline and profession, and that it will affect the successful mastering of many business skills, such as communication, negotiation, and others.

Developing crucial competencies and capabilities to successfully perform business activities within entrepreneurship. Emphasis is placed on developing abilities to research competitive and general environment and on innovation and creation of new ventures, as well as on enabling students to take planned risks in order to make an entrepreneur business idea operational and at the same time to make room for its practical realization.

English Language 2 represents a course of general English which systematically covers all main language structures and skills through a wide scope of relevant and thematic material. Course objective is improvement in the level of fluency and excellence in speaking in various situations on diverse topics. This course prepares students for better understanding of written and oral language by the usage of correct and complex grammar structure. Students are enabled to successfully follow and master complex language structures of the business English course which ensues, both in written and oral form.

The implementation of the course curriculum allows students to master the basics of the international economics, the international division of labour, the global market and the globalization of the world economy, the subjectsof the world economy, the type of international economic transactions, competitiveness in the international economy, as well as the instruments regulating international trade, global and regional economic and financial integration, the transition in international economics andthe problems resulting from the global economic crisis, and the role of countries in rapid economic development - BRICS in alleviating the current crisis. Students will learn to assess accurately the topics on how contemporary international trade, monetary and financial system function.

The aim of the course is to introduce students to the basics and principles of marketing implementation in the service sector as particularly important in the overall economy. It involves the analysis of the specifics of the service sector, the market characteristics of services andthe treatment of concrete cases related to the concept of marketing services. Students will be able to accurately understand and differentiate between services and goods and commodities markets, and toanalytically use services as a marketing tool at the level of service companies and other institutions.

Gaining theoretical and practical knowledge of databases applications in modern information systems. Understanding the advantages of database systems compared to traditional software solutions with files. The study of different systems to manage databases. Layering database: data model, business logic model and an interface to the users. Understanding the relational data model and the effects of transactions in a competitive work. Mastering the techniques of modeling processes of the modern business environment Advanced use of MicrosoftExcel, work with financial functions, related tables, etc. Students will acquire the necessary skills for independent work in MicrosoftAccess management system databases: database creation, making the user interface, query and reports. They will also beome autonomous in their work with models of business processes.

III year
Accounting and Auditing

Theoretical, analytical and applied knowledge of negotiating, planning and carrying out an audit, along with an introduction to all auditing relevant methods, techniques and procedures for successfully conducting an audit in modern environment. Gaining theoretical, analytical and applied knowledge in the field of financial reporting. Mastering the techniques offinancial reporting calculations. Presenting students with modern developments in financial reporting. After completing and passing the course, students should be able to provide customers with high quality and relevant financial statements, applying modern techniques of financial reporting.

Introducing the students to the basic postulates of cost accounting and business decision-making Teaching the theoretical background and explaining practical examples using the SAP system.

English Language 3 is based on the acquisition of business vocabulary, understanding the principles of business and conducting basic business communication. Teaching units enable students to improve their business vocabulary and to use it in conversation, with special skills of negotiation and business correspondence. The course teaches all four language skills, with the focus on listening and speaking, with various students’ activities based on conversation, with the aim of connecting language knowledge and personal experience.

Course objective is reaching level А1 in Spanish language according to the CEFR. Introducing basic information about Spanish language and hispanic culture with special emphasis on communicative skills. This course should enable students to communicate easily, to exchange information using simple language forms, and to read and write texts, notes and descriptions.

Italian language 1 is a multimedia course in Italian language and culture on basic A1 level which, starting with the rules of pronunciation and spelling, systematically develops all four language skills using modern language and permanent shifting between communicative and grammar elements. This course should enable students to communicate on a basic level, to exchange information in everyday situations and to communicate their basic needs.

Course objective is the usage of the German language at A1 level according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. This course should enable students to communicate on basic levels, to exchange information in everyday situations and to communicate their basic needs.

Students are enabled to acquire economic, financial, marketing, advertising and entrepreneurial terminology. Acquisition of new vocabulary, correct reading and translation of texts, correct speaking and writing and acquisition of all lectured units.

Course objective is the acquisition of skills and the usage of French in accordance with A1 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. The focus is on balanced development of all four skills, oral and written understanding and communication. Course includes reading, listening, writing, conversation and acquisition of specific business terminology. Course objective is to enable students to communicate in everyday situations. Course outcome is the acquisition of skills in the usage of French and preparation for DELF exams according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

Chinese Language I is a creatively designed multimedia course that focuses on introducing basic rules for reading and writing Chinese characters, phonetic transcription (pinyin), correct pronounciation of phonemes and tones, functional sentence patterns, practical dialogues and the most interesting aspects of Chinese culture, history, philosophy and modern Chinese society. This course aims to develope students’ competence in understanding and using both spoken and written Chinese and to enable them to communicate in real-life situations.

Familiarizing students with International Standards on Auditing , their character and manner of administration in the external audit of the financial statements. Student will be able to know how to use International Standards on Auditing in the external audit of the financial statements .

Acquiring theoretical-analytical and applied knowledge of cost-accounting and mastering techniques of cost-accounting and calculating unit cost; getting acquainted with current systems of cost accounting After finishing the course and successfully passing the exam, students should be able to apply contemporary techniques of cost-accounting and allocate costs to cost objects such as products.

The aim of this course is that students acquire theoretical and applied knowledge in the field of internal control, internal audit, audit planning and execution, auditor's reporting and implementing auditor's recommendations. After completing this course, students will be able to apply gained knowledge in the field of internal audit. They will master systems of internal control and efficiency assessment of processes of risk management. They will be able to perform all phases of auditing process: planning, performing, reporting and follow-up, on the basis of International Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing.

The objective of this course is that the students, based on the theory and practice, are enabled to do practical work, they can participate in the preparation of investment projects, investment management and so on. The course is designed for students to gain practical knowledge in the field of investments in two spheres of investment: investment based on capital; and investments in financial markets. After passing the exam, students have the knowledge that allows them to successfully follow more advanced courses, primarily in the field of financial markets, financial instruments and valuation.

The students should gain theoretical and practical knowledge in the domain of e-business and e-commerce. The main aim is to enable students to master the main concepts, business models and technological foundations, e-payment systems,corporate security issues. The students should be able to select hardware and software solutions and use the existing software environment to develop their own elctronic business.

Finance and Banking

Acquiring knowledge on corporate business, its specifics with regard to organisation, sources of capital, with extensive use of the case study method. After successfully finishing the course, students will possess knowledge which will enable them to successfully take on more advanced courses, especially those which are related to financial markets, financial instruments, and valuation.

After completing this course, students will acquire knowledge about basic risk concepts, basic principles of risk management in a company, and methods of risk measurement, assessment and modeling. They will also be able to apply risk management methods and understand the multidisciplinary and complexity of taking risks in business operations. This course enables students to treat risk properly while managing and controlling risks in business operations.

This course would enable students to master basic notions relating to: monetary economics and money, money supply and other monetary aggregates, supply of money, standard money, mechanisms of making and withdrawing money supply, money-loan multiplication, monetary phenomenon of inflation, transmission mechanism of monetary policy, operations approach to monetary policy, monetary devices (liability reserve, discount rate, open market operations, etc.), monetary and fiscal policy coordination Teaching students how to decide correctly regarding the issue of monetary and credit system.

The aim of this course is to introduce students to the concepts of fiscal economics. The role of the public sector in a mixed economy.Public goods and goods in general use. The budget system in Serbia and the harmonization with the EU. The taxation of non-residents in Serbia. Public-private partnership and concessions. The study of external effects and the environment. The employment policy. The distribution of the tax burden and the efficiency and fairness of taxation. The social programs. The problems of the budget deficit. The state and the capital market. The education and tax advice. The student will be trained for all kinds of jobs in the field of public finance, both at the level of the Republic of Serbia and the autonomous provinces and at the level of the local government and all forms of social insurance. The impact of fiscal economy on the industry and the citizens. Therefore, the student will be able to do the duties of tax consultant in the financial and consulting institutions.

Marketing and Management

Understanding multidimensional technological-sociological Internet environment as the main area of contemporary marketing activities. Learning about key Internet technologies and their most popular services from the aspect of their use for marketing purposes. Acquisition of knowledge and tools for developing marketing solutions on the Internet and evaluation of their efficacy. The student acquires theoretical and practical knowledge required to independently organize a marketing campaign on the Internet.Aside from understanding the key principles of Internet marketing,the student also learns about Web design principles, metrics, analytics and reporting,and how to use leading platforms for analysis (Google Analytics) and advertizing (Google AdWords).

Introducing students to the basics of the global business environment and the determinants of international/global business operations; opportunities and challenges companies face when expanding their operations internationally or when they have international competitors in their domestic market; organizational designs and strategies of international companies, as well as various aspects of managerial functions in the international business environment. This course will provide students with the fundamentals of business management in the international business environment.

The aim of this course is to enable students to become conversant with the concept, importance and role of trade channels and other marketing channels; They should study the main aspects of trade and other markting channels in national and international economy. The students are trained to work in rich and complex marketing channels, such as commodity exchange, supermarket chains, direct marketing, e-commerce, etc

Theoretical and practical knowledge in the field of public relations (PR), for the purpose of preparing students for future work in this dynamic business area Students will, upon completion of the course, be able to use basic PR terminology, as well as practical use of mass communication strategy aimed at shaping public awareness about various products, services, organizations, personalities in the business environment

The review of contemporary approach to various project management, by analyzing the field starting from theoretical elements of project management concepts and ending with opportunities for practical usage of specialized software tools. The course is organized in such a way to show appropriate methodological approach to projects, as well as to introduce students to specific methods and techniques necessary for successful project management The course should enable students to practically use their knowledge with the aim of effective time management, cost management, resource management, quality management, risk management and communication in the preparation and organization of projects. The course should also enable students to use contemporary software tools for project management.

This course is designed to explain advertising in general. From roles in society to the role in business. The focus is on balanced development of all four skills: oral and written understanding and communication. Course includes reading, listening, writing, conversation and acquisition of specific business terminology. Course objective is to enable students to communicate in everyday situations. Course outcome is the acquisition of skills in the usage of French and preparation for DELF exams according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

Chinese Language II is a creatively designed multimedia course that focuses on acquisition of the most commonly used Chinese characters, useful vocabulary, functional sentence patterns, fundamental grammar, practical dialogues and the most interesting aspects of Chinese culture, history, philosophy and modern Chinese society. This course aims to improve students’ competence in understanding and using both spoken and written Chinese and to expand their conversational skills

Introducing students to the basics of communication, interpersonal and organizational communication; verbal (oral and written) and nonverbal communication, business etiquette, barriers in communication, and intercultural business communication. Through readings, discussions and simulations students develop practical skills of business communication. This course will provide students with the fundamentals of business communicationin the international business environment.

To familiarize students with the theoretical basis and practical issues of investment in employees . The aim is that the function and processes of staff development are presented in terms of the interests of both management and employees' needs in specific organizational context. Display of contemporary trends in the field of organizational learning , career development , promotion and retention of employees. Ability of students to interpret the role, organization and basic market implications of staff development in any business . Students will be familiar with the different types of employee training and will be able to independently analyze the appropriateness of investing in staff development programs and suitability of specific programs to different types of organizations . They will learn the basics of the concept of career development and lifelong learning and will be able to develop a basic plan staff development for the specific example of the organization

The course is to enable students for independent work, to expand their knowledge and to teach them how to apply relevant knowledge from the field of professional development and business skills, i.e. to apply theoretical knowledge to specific case studies Student should be able to understand and apply key business skills, basic rules for goal achievement, role of long-life learning in achieving business success and positive business results, as well as the aspect of individual’s role as an employee in the economy.
