Physical education and sports

The aim of the study program Physical education and sport is to enable candidates to improve their pedagogical knowledge and education skills, so that upon completion of their studies, they are able to apply acquired theoretical and practical knowledge in educational systems of pre-school institutions, primary and secondary schools, as well as to improve their work opportunities in eminent sports clubs and national teams. This program is conducted in two languages Serbian and English.

hatUpon completion of the studies, students gain the academic title of Master’s degree in Physical Education and Sport with Teacher Education.

I semestar

Introducing students with: the concept of research, its significance, the role of research, structure, methods, techniques, instruments, defining the terminological and conceptual minimum necessary for the use of professional literature, and enabling students to work independently on collecting the basic procedures for effective research in sports. Enabling students for realization, formation, management and writing of sports and other research projects and academic papers.

Acquiring basic knowledge on theoretical and practical issues of motor development and motor learning processes in children and adolescents. Understanding the interrelation between psycho-physical development and motor learning, legitimacy and the necessity of focused action on motor skills. On the basis of acquired knowledge students will learn how to direct the development of children and young people in the most optimal psycho-physical direction.

Adopting theoretical and practical knowledge of diagnostics in physical education and sport; importance and role of diagnostics in physical education and contemporary sport; enabling students to work independently in collecting basic procedures of functional diagnostics; enabling students to implement and form instruments for assessing the basic motor skills of athletes.

To theoretically and practically enable students to apply general methodological procedures in physical education programs for pre-school children; theoretical and practical information related to educational work with children of pre-school age; understanding the specificity of anthropomotoric, morphologically-functional and pedagogically-psychological development of children of pre-school age, with the aim of using acquired knowledge in realization of physical education programs and sports with children of pre-school age; knowledge of sensitive areas for the development of motor abilities in pre-school children.

Theoretical and practical lessons will enable students to master the way of how physical preparation can influence the development and maintenance of motor and functional abilities, morphological characteristics and health status of each athlete in the process of training and competitions; students will be informed about the possibilities of improving the training of athletes by raising general, basic and specific abilities and qualities, which are important for the successful realization of training and competition results; students will acquire theoretical and practical knowledge about the processes of planning, programming, realization and control of the training of athletes.

II semestar

To theoretically and practically enable students to apply general methodological procedures in physical education programs for schoolchildren; theoretical and practical information related to educational work with schoolchildren; understanding the specificity of anthropomotoric, morphologically-functional and pedagogically-psychological development of schoolchildren, with the aim of using acquired knowledge in realization of physical education programs and sports with schoolchildren; knowledge of sensitive areas for the development of motor abilities among schoolchildren.

Students are taught to analyze competitive activities in the selected sport; to know the methods of training and improvement of technical-tactical elements in the selected sports branch; they are trained to plan, program and implement processes of technical-tactical training in working with top athletes of different age categories. Students will learn about theoretical basis of strategy and tactics as planned ways of using elements of the chosen sports branch during games and competitions. Students will learn how to recognise the usability value of each element in the chosen sport (individual, group or collective), as well as methodological procedures for their training and perfecting. Students will be taught to discuss and think about tactics, to analyze the competitions and be able to find adequate tactical solutions for particular situations.

The aim is for students to master theoretical and practical knowledge that will enable them to plan and realize an independent research with an ability to critically analyze it.

The goal of designing and defending the Master's thesis is to allow a student to, by processing of practical research oriented topics, demonstrate an independent and creative approach in applying theoretical knowledge and practical skills in future practice within the scope of this study program.

Students gain basic theoretical and practical knowledge about the process of child selection for top-level sports achievements. Through the realization of curricula students are trained to perform the quantification and assessment of children's dispositions for a particular sports branch. They acquire competences for assessing morphologically-functional, motor and pedagogically-psychological status of children and the possibility of applying selection in sport. Students are theoretically and practically trained for self-planning, programming, realization and control of training and competition activities with schoolchildren and athletes of different age categories and competitive levels.

Students receive information on institutional, organizational and social needs of inclusion of persons with special needs in sports activities, and through them and in social life. Students learn about basic concepts of disability; they acquire theoretical and practical knowledge on defectology, medical and sports rehabilitation and the benefits of involving people with special needs in sports activities;. Students are trained to perform evaluation of the abilities of persons with special needs and possibilities for their implementation in sports programs. They learn about understanding the complexity, specificity and multidisciplinarity in the planning and realization of sports activities for people with special needs.

Students gain basic knowledge on the theoretical and practical issues of psychological preparation; they are taught about the necessity of wider psychological work with schoolchildren and athletes and the importance of psychological support at different stages of personal and sports development. Students are taught to understand the role of psychological traits, processes and conditions in achieving sport goals, in school sports, in individual and team sports, competitive and recreational activities of all ages. Students are enabled to independently use basic techniques of psychological preparation in their professional work with schoolchildren and athletes of different age and competition categories and for professional cooperation with a sports psychologist.
