I semester

This course aims to introduce students to the key research process activities in the field of applied linguistics and to train students to critically evaluate the existing research findings in the field of teaching English as a foreign language. The aim of the course is to familiarize students with different research methods, data collection techniques, data analysis, and ethical aspects of research. The aim of the course is also to help students acquire effective writing skills, develop argumentation relying on expert scientific views, and use modern software solutions for the needs of research work.

The course aims to: familiarize students with relevant theories and concepts coming from the language acquisition field, addressing both L1 and L2/foreign language; shed additional light on the phenomena related to language acquisition, as well as learning, and language use - through the prism of micro linguistic disciplines (phonetics and phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, pragmatics); make students familiar with different perspectives of language acquisition and use and capable of seeing them through the eyes of learners, consumers, and teachers.

The aim of the practicum is to: deepen students' theoretical, methodological, scientific and professional knowledge in the field of English language teaching; enable students to apply acquired knowledge during preparation, realization and evaluations of teaching English as a foreign language; enable students to apply innovative teaching models in language teaching, create teaching in accordance with the Law on Fundamentals of Education System in the Republic of Serbia, and to critically evaluate the current language education policies of the European Union and adjust them to specific teaching conditions.

This course aims to introduce students to different types of syllabus, and the characteristics of instructional materials used in foreign language teaching. The aim of the course is to familiarize students with strategies used to create syllabus, define course objectives, analyze students' needs, select content, and create, adapt and evaluate instructional materials.

The aim of the course is to familiarize students with the peculiarities of interculturality in the global business environments and to point out the importance of developing communication and mediation skills necessary for successful business interactions in different cultural contexts. The aim of the course is to introduce students to strategies used to overcome cultural differences, encouraging intercultural cooperation and improving intercultural sensitivity in different business environments.

The aim of the course is to help students master the basic concepts in the field of sociolinguistics, as prerequisites for proper understanding of the connection between language and identity, and provide students with strategies and instruct them how to practically apply these in everyday language use. In addition to this, the aim of the course is to make students aware of factors that can influence the discourse of speakers of a language, and to help them to develop a critical insight into the dynamics of the relationship between identity creation and language use.

The aim of the course English for specific and academic purposes is to familiarize students with the characteristics of teaching English for specific purposes, with special reference to teaching English for academic purposes, along with the interpretation of the key principles of this discipline. The goal of the course is to familiarize students with special characteristics of curriculum creation for a number of specific occupations and professional purposes, and effective practices in creating courses and instructional materials.

The course aims to familiarize students with the development of humanism in education, to provide the theoretical framework, principles and characteristics of the humanistic approach in foreign language teaching, and to familiarize students with individual factors that affect learning.

This course explores the dynamic relationship between language, society, power, and culture, emphasizing the sociolinguistic aspects of language use and critical language pedagogy. Students will critically analyze language in various contexts and develop a deep understanding of how language reflects and shapes societal norms, values, and power structures.

II semester

The aim of the course is to familiarize students with modern trends in foreign language teaching, and to enable them to assess and critically evaluate different contemporary teaching theories and practices. The aim of the course is also to enable students to choose the most appropriate methods, approaches and techniques and adapt them adequately to different teaching environments.

The aim of the Research Project is to enable students to plan and carry out their independent research work within the chosen field of study, relying on the theoretical, methodological, scientific and professional knowledge, and practical skills. Research Project also aims: to help students apply knowledge and skills actively when determining subjects of research, planning, organization and implementation of the research; apply statistical, quantitative and other research methods, in accordance with the selected research subject; interpret the data and make relevant conclusions based on the obtained data research results.

The aim of professional practice is to enable students to: expand and apply knowledge in the field of English for specific purposes and business communication in professional environmets; to apply acquired theoretical knowledge in real working conditions in organizations and companies that need professionals who have knowldge and skills in the area of English for specific purposes, business and international communication; develop critical and creative thinking skills, and develop communication and cooperation skills and competencies and teamwork; apply problem-solving skills in concrete tasks in real working conditions in organizations and companies.

The aim of the course is to enable students to: define the stages of research and choose an appropriate theoretical research framework; choose and analyze relevant literature; check accuracy and validity of the data used in research; analyze and synthesize data in in order to establish a theoretical framework for independent research work.

The aim of the course is to: help students gain knowledge, develop skills and apply methods in creating an independent research paper, respecting the rules of academic writing; write an original scientific paper that contains all the required elements of scientific work and fulfills formal and ethical principles of academic writing.

The aim of the course is to provide an overview of the methods and types of assessment and testing in the field of teaching foreign language; to familiarize students with key terms in the field of language testing, and the trends in testing, to help students gain better insight and understanding of the key issues in creating test tasks and the relationship among teaching, learning and testing.

The course aims to: familiarize the students with essential phenomena coming from the field of Pragmatics in intercultural settings; deepen their knowledge of relevant concepts related to culture and communication; introduce them to communication patterns characterizing different parts of the world; prepare them for recognizing and analyzing language in a critical and analytical way, as well as successfully interacting across cultures.

This course aims to familiarize students with the importance, characteristics, theoretical foundations and approaches within discourse analysis; to introduce students with the role that language plays in the creation and interpretation of implicit message, intention and meaning in written and oral discourse; to enable students to apply approaches on concrete examples of contemporary discourse.

  • The candidate takes seven exams. The Project Assignment 1 integrates five courses from the first semester, whereas the Project Assignment 2 integrates two courses from the second semester.
  • During the course of the lectures, the candidate defines the topic of their master’s thesis. The Project Assignment 1 and the Project Assignment 2 can be integrated into the master’s thesis.
